If you’re like most of us, laundry is a chore. We have found that a well organized laundry room is the best way to overcome the thought of laundry being a chore.
First all, consider the placement of your washer and dryer. If you have the room, put them side by side and put a counter top on top so you have somewhere to fold or iron (yes people still iron their clothes). If you have to stack your washer and dryer, at least try make them look appealing.
Considering the size of most homes now, combining tasks in one room makes a lot of sense. If you can put up with the noise from the washer and dryer, why not combine your home office with the laundry room or perhaps your collectables or hobby room. If you’re like myself, I love it when I can multi-task!
The worst thing I’ve seen in laundry rooms is when people have great shelving and all you see is the boring products used during laundry, very ugly! Cupboards with doors or the usage of baskets to hide things give the appearance of order and neatness. It’s amazing how clean everything looks when hidden behind the cupboard doors.
Depending on how large your laundry room is, you might consider putting a sink in (almost a necessity) as well as some sort of method for drying. Whether the articles are slightly wet or other “delicates” that can’t take extensive drying, a hanging rod or a pull-out rack is ideal for your laundry room’s function. Something one of our clients absolutely loved were pull-out drawers for dirty clothes so she could separate the colours and white clothes.
Take care of the necessary tasks but don’t forget to have some fun with decorating. I know most folks like boring WHITE but why not add a splash of colour or pattern.
One client even used acrylic for a hanging rod while another coloured t he entire room a soft teal colour. Let your imagination go.
However you organise your laundry room, make sure it’s
not only practical but beautiful as well.
